1970 Contests from Galley Hill

In the late 1960s and early 1970s The Luton VHF Group used Galley Hill, near Luton as a contest site. In those days it was relatively easy to drive to the top of the hill. nowadays it is nearly impossible because the golf course has expanded and the access tracks have been blocked to stop joy riders.

The equipment was two Edystone 888A recievers, one for 70cm and one for 23cm. A spare reciever was an Edystone EC10. There are two 70cm tripler PAs one for 70cm and one driving a tripler for 23cm.

1972 70cm and 23cm on Galley Hill

By 1972 we had aquired a 6ft solid metal dish for 70cm. We got 5 dishes as scrap from Andrews Antennas in. We made feeds for 23cm and 13cm, they proved to be very sharp but difficult to handle in windy conditions.
